This is a photograph showing the building of the reservoir.I
presume this is the Dalehead part of the reservoir going off what was writen
on these box of plates.Work on Stocks Reservoir was extended over 9 years.On
the 9th July 1932 Prince George opened the reservoir.Prince George pressed
the button and then a part of the counrtyside known as Dalehead which had
been inhabited for more than 1000 years was lost for ever.The Advertiser and
Times wrote:"A great fountain of water rose in a foaming cresent from
the foot of the huge embankment on which the prince stood.Up and over,ever
higher the water sprang,then to fall with a steady roar into the stream below...".The
reservoir cost £1,400,000 to construct.
