White Hall

A early shot of White Hall in Grindleton. On a personal note I find parts of the history of White Hall very interesting. As of yet I don't know if there is a family connection with this photograph. All I know was Elizabeth Anne Simpson (ne Pye) lived here with her husband Henry Simpson who died at only 46.She remarried to John Buller at the Weslyan Chapel in Clitheroe in November 1889.They carried on living at White Hall until 1934.

Elizabeth was descended from the Pye family in the Waddington area. That have been in the area since the 14th century. In that line was Robert Pye who was the 'over seer of the poor' in 1784 and 'Parish Surveyor of Highways' in 1797.He is listed in Burkes Landed Gentry and had a coat of arms.Though that is not immediate family because my line of Pye's were descended from 'Mills',definitely no gentry there!

I've traced my family line back to around 1820 in Clitheroe. So considering that the railways came years after the 1820's I would find it hard not to believe that there was no connection as such.
