The White Horse on York Street

The White Horse taken earlier on last century. There is evidence that The White Horse dates back 300 years and was originally next door to St. Mary's Church on Church Street. When York Street was cut around the 1820's the pub that was next door to St. Mary's was demolished and built here on the present site. One of the reason for this I would of thought was at the time Church Street was the main route out of Clitheroe. So when York Street was cut most of the passing custom would obviously not go up Church Street.Up to a few years ago this public house was known locally as 'the pit',but was still a fine boozer with some great sounds on the backroom jukebox .Like most other local pubs The White Horse was renovated around 10 years ago.
