River Ribble floods at Grindleton

This photograph was taken from the Chatburn side of the river.Something I never knew untill recently is that Mahatama Gandi walked down this part of the river around the time this photograph was taken in the 1930's.Ghandi came to Britain for talks with the government on the future of India. When he was in the UK he accepted an invitation to visit the Lancashire Mills,so he could see at first hand the 'misery and poverty' of some of the local mill workers. While he was here he stayed over in West Bradford and spent some time either in meditation or walking by this part of the River Ribble.
